Registration of the Ananas Pain de Sucre du Plateau d’Allada in Benin, with the support of FAO, AFD, EC and OAPI

Benin has registered its first Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) at the African Intellectual Property Organisation (OAPI). It is the pineapple sugar loaf from the Allada Plateau PGI.

This registration came after several years of concerted action between the government of Benin, the pineapple sector stakeholders and with the technical and financial support of the European Union (EU) and the French Development Agency (AFD) through the Private Sector Stakeholder Support Project (PARASEP), as well as with the technical support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The official presentation of the registration certificate to the PGI Defense and Management Group took place on 28 October in Cotonou (Benin).
